China UnionPay, founded in 2002, is one of the leading international bank card organisations, with 2.7 Billion cards issued in 14 countries - the dominant part being in China, but active on markets like Japan, Russia, Germany.
Between 2004 and 2009, growth in transaction volume was 62% per year, reaching 1160 Billion USD by 2009. The number of bank cards issued increased by 11.6% from 2008 to 2009. Growth is largely unaffected by the present recession, steady increase of volume figures and opening in new markets is expected in the coming years, including the issuance of UnionPay cards in main European markets. In Europe, China UnionPay is present in all large markets (UK, France, Scandinavia, Germany, Italy...) as direct acquirer, and in Germany and Russia as issuer. E Group CUP Gateway operates the UnionPay payment gateway for the CEE and Balkan regions, and authorised to connect the online payment platforms for commercial portals and online surfaces over all Europe. |
